Maldives · Indian Ocean

The villa, the lagoon
and nothing else

A country made of water in the middle of the Indian Ocean: twelve hundred islands where each resort has an entire island to itself. You arrive by seaplane, leave your shoes at the jetty — and the world stays on the other side of the ocean. All at your pace, all designed tailor made.

The destination

A country you
enter barefoot

The Maldives are 99% sea. The remaining 1% is white-sand islands scattered across 26 atolls — and it is in this improbable geography that the most desired travel formula in the world exists: one island, one resort. No neighbours, no cars, no locked doors.

Here, luxury is not gilded — it is barefoot. It is the villa over the lagoon with steps straight into the water, the reef twenty strokes from breakfast, dinner with your feet in the sand. It is also the most effortless beach destination there is: on the island there is no logistics, no schedule, no wallet — everything is already taken care of.

And there is no single Maldives: every island has a personality of its own. There are islands for newlyweds and islands where children rule, divers' islands and spa islands, islands of elegant celebration and islands of absolute silence. Choosing the right one is what changes the trip — and that is precisely our job.

First chapter

The arrival is already the first landscape

The journey changes key in Malé, when you trade the aeroplane for the seaplane. For the next forty minutes the Indian Ocean becomes a living map: rings of coral, lagoons in twenty shades of blue and islands the size of a city block gliding past the window. It is one of the most beautiful scenic flights on the planet — and it comes included on the way.

On the island, the scale is human: you can walk across it in minutes, and within a few hours the whole team knows your name. The essential choice is between the two ways of living on it — the beach villa, with its own garden and the sea steps from the bed, or the overwater villa, with the blue beneath the floorboards. On the best islands both come with a private pool — and some guests settle the dilemma by splitting the stay between the two.

The seaplane flight

The Maldives have the largest seaplane fleet in the world, and the hop to the island is the country's finest calling card. We handle the coordination between the international flight and the transfer — seaplanes only fly in daylight, and that connection is the part that cannot fail.

The icon of the Maldives: bedroom, deck and pool suspended over the lagoon, with steps going straight down into the sea. Waking up and diving in before coffee is the ritual that sums up the destination. Sunrise side or sunset side, more lagoon or more reef — we help you choose the exact villa.

The beach villa

A walled garden, an open-air shower and the sand starting at the door. For families it is usually the right call: children run free, the shallow lagoon is steps away and there is no deck over the sea to watch. Many couples prefer it too — total privacy.

Second chapter

The greatest show is below the waterline

The most photographed landscape of the Maldives is the villa; the most unforgettable one begins a metre beneath it. The atolls are one of the richest reef ecosystems on the planet: corals, turtles, rays, harmless reef sharks and clouds of fish that make any aquarium look modest.

Best of all: you do not need to be a diver. The house reef — the island's own reef — delivers all of it with a mask and snorkel, straight from the villa's steps. For those who want more, the resorts' dive centres certify beginners in the lagoon and take experienced divers to the sites that make the Maldives a world-class diving destination.

The house reef: mask, snorkel and five minutes of swimming separate the villa from a coral garden in full activity. Islands with a good house reef change the whole trip — it is one of the criteria we weigh most when choosing the resort.

The mantas of Hanifaru

In Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Hanifaru Bay gathers dozens of manta rays in the right season — and, with luck, whale sharks — in a plankton ballet a few metres below the surface. One of the world's great natural spectacles.

Turtles & reef sharks

Hawksbill turtles grazing on the coral, baby reef sharks patrolling the shallow lagoon, rays gliding past the jetty at dusk. In the Maldives marine life is not an excursion — it is the island's routine.

Dolphins at sunset

In the late afternoon the boats head out to meet the spinner dolphins, which escort the bow in leaps while the sky changes colour. It is the outing no age group skips — and the best possible opening act for dinner.

A sandbank of your own

The boat drops you on a sliver of white sand in the middle of the blue — with a parasol, a picnic basket and champagne — and comes back hours later. It is the Maldivian version of a desert island, and the Indian Ocean's most-committed marriage proposal.

The dhoni at sunset

The traditional Maldivian boat, its lines inherited from Arab seafarers, becomes the best box seat for the end of the day: a slow cruise as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean. It also sails as a sunset fishing trip — whatever you catch becomes dinner.

There is a moment, shortly after the seaplane lifts off from Malé, when the blue takes over the whole window and someone on board always sighs. That is where the journey begins.

Third chapter

Days when the agenda is not having one

The most common question about the Maldives is "doesn't it get boring?". The answer lies in how the days are drawn: snorkelling in the morning, lunch with your feet in the sand, an afternoon of spa or lagoon, dolphins at dusk, a different dinner every night. The island is small; the list of things to do on it is not. And the right to do absolutely nothing is always preserved.

On the best islands, gastronomy has become the protagonist: signature chefs, wine cellars buried in the sand, tables set in the water and menus that travel from Japan to the Levant without leaving the atoll. In the top all-inclusive resorts it is all already inside — champagne in the glass, signature dinners and experiences included, with no bill at the end.

A different table every night

Grills on the beach, omakase over the water, cellars with paired dinners, breakfast floating in the villa's pool. In the Maldives, where you eat matters as much as what — and we book the right tables before you board.

The lagoon as a backyard

Kayak, stand-up paddle, sailing, wakeboard, jet-ski — the lagoon is shallow, warm and waveless, the perfect aquatic playground. At the resorts, non-motorised equipment is usually included: just grab and go.

Paradise is theirs too

A shallow, waveless lagoon, kids clubs run with marine biologists, treasure hunts across the island, pizza and ice cream at will. The right family islands turn the Maldives into the easiest trip in the world with children — we choose among them.

Dinner for two, far from everything

A table set on a sandbank or on a deserted tip of the island, torches lit, a chef and maître dedicated only to you. It is the most memorable dinner in the Maldivian repertoire — and the right moment for any important question.

The island at night

With no cities for an ocean's radius, the sky becomes a planetarium — and on the right nights the lagoon lights up with bioluminescent plankton. Cinema on the beach, stargazing and the silence that has become a luxury item complete the programme.

Fourth chapter

Choosing the right piece of blue

Twenty-six atolls, more than one hundred and fifty resort islands — and no two alike. North of Malé, atolls such as Baa, Raa, Noonu and Lhaviyani concentrate the country's most distinctive islands, served by scenic seaplane flights; closer to the capital, atolls such as Rasdhoo and the Malés hold generous-lagoon classics a short transfer away.

The choice of atoll defines the trip: the length of the transfer, the richness of the diving, the type of island and of crowd. It is a decision we make together with you, crossing occasion, time of year, budget and style — before we even talk resorts.

Raa & Noonu, the signature axis

How we travel

What changes when the trip is designed

The Maldives look simple — one flight, one island — but they are made of choices that define the trip: the atoll, the island, the villa, the meal plan, the seaplane connection. All of it is solved before you board.

The right island, not the most famous

We know the islands personally and we know what the photos do not tell: which one has the best house reef, which one is for honeymoons, which one truly welcomes children. The choice is born from your profile — never from a ranking.

The seaplane, without surprises

Seaplanes only fly in daylight, and the last transfer leaves mid-afternoon — the international flight has to talk to that. We take care of the connection, the seats and what to do if something runs late. You just watch the view.

The exact villa

Within the same island, two villas can yield different trips: sunset side or sunrise side, closer to the reef or to the main pool, with or without a private pool. We request the right villa — by number, when it comes to that.

Meal plans without traps

Half board, full board or premium all-inclusive? On a remote island, the wrong plan gets expensive. We work out what makes sense for your style — and make sure the chosen all-inclusive is one of those that truly include.

Paperwork solved

The electronic travel declaration filed on time, passport and vaccination requirements checked, travel insurance guided. The Maldives' bureaucracy is small — and it reaches you pre-digested, in a simple step by step.

24/7 support

From boarding at home to the return, one team follows the whole trip. Any hiccup — a flight, a connection, a special request on the island — is solved with one message, in your language.

Where to stay

Three ways to live in the blue

We work with a short list of islands we know and trust — these are some of the ones that usually make it into our trips, organised by style. The final choice is always designed with you.

Know before

The essentials, no fine print

Practical information for those starting to think about the trip.

When to go

Good news: there is no wrong season. The temperature barely leaves 29°C all year — what changes is the rain pattern and what the sea offers in each season.

Dry seasonDec–Apr. Clear skies, a pool-flat sea and maximum visibility for snorkelling. The classic Maldivian high season.
Green seasonMay–Nov. Passing showers between long windows of sun, quieter islands and the Indian Ocean at its richest.
The mantasIn the green season, plankton draws the mantas — and the whale sharks — to Hanifaru Bay, in Baa Atoll.
Contested datesNew Year, holidays and school breaks sell out the best villas many months ahead. The earlier, the better the island.

Documents and visas

Brazilian citizens receive a free tourist visa on arrival, for stays of up to 30 days. The passport must be valid for at least six months from departure, and the electronic Traveller Declaration must be filled in up to 96 hours before arrival — we guide you step by step.

For those departing from Brazil, the International Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is mandatory, with the vaccine taken at least ten days before the trip. We also recommend carrying copies of the passport's first pages separate from the originals.

Pace, time zone and money

The Maldives run eight hours ahead of Brasília — and many resorts adopt "island time", an extra hour of light at the end of the day. The country is Muslim: at the resorts life is unrestricted, with wines and cocktails at will; in Malé and on local islands alcohol is not consumed and dress calls for discretion.

In practice, the trip's currency is the US dollar — but you will hardly see it: on the island everything goes to the villa's account, settled at check-out. Cards are accepted at every resort.

What to book in advance

The villa is the bottleneck: each island has few units of each category, and the most desired ones — overwater, with pool, on the sunset side — sell out first. The dream island takes months of lead time on prime dates.

The seaplane clock: air transfers only operate in daylight, and the last one usually leaves mid-afternoon. The international flight schedule is built around it — it is the first connection we secure.

To add on

To make the trip even more yours

Layers that fit naturally into a Maldivian week.

01

Two islands, two Maldives

Splitting the stay between two islands of opposite styles — the vibrant and the silent, the lagoon one and the reef one. The transfer between them becomes one more scenic flight, and the trip doubles its repertoire without changing country.

02

Diving certification

Leave the Maldives a certified diver: the course starts in the island's own lagoon, with multilingual instructors, and ends in open water among corals and turtles. There is no better classroom.

03

A yacht day around the atoll

A yacht or luxury dhoni just for you, threading lagoons, snorkelling sites and sandbanks the scheduled boats never reach — with lunch on board and the anchor dropping wherever the water looks best.

04

A wellness retreat

Multi-day spa programmes, sunrise yoga over the lagoon, resident therapists and menus designed by nutritionists. To turn the beach week into a complete reset.

05

A lagoon photo session

A professional photographer capturing the honeymoon, the proposal, the family in crystal-clear water — on the sandbank, on the villa's deck, from a drone. The souvenir that appreciates over time.

06

Signature moments

Dinner in an underwater restaurant, a floating breakfast in the villa's pool, private cinema on the beach, a Maldivian cooking class. We add them to the trip to match the occasion — a proposal, a birthday, an anniversary or nothing beyond pleasure.
